SAN FRANCISCO--Microsoft is on track to release the first full test version of the next major Windows release by the end of June, a Microsoft executive told CNET News.com on Monday.

The company has said publicly that Beta 1 of Longhorn would arrive by the end of 2005, though internally, the company has been aiming for a release by midyear. The final version of Longhorn is slated for the second half of next year.

"There will be a beta 1 of Longhorn...happening in the first half of this year," John Montgomery, a director in Microsoft's developer division, said during an interview at VSLive, a conference devoted to the company's Visual Studio .Net toolkit. The release will be primarily aimed at developers, Montgomery said. "I do, however, expect that you will find IT departments starting to look at it, kick the tires, figure out what's in it and what's not in it."

Beta 1 will be the first look at Longhorn in its current form. Microsoft released a developer preview version of Windows at the Professional Developers Conference in the fall of 2003 and updated that early code last spring.

However, Longhorn has changed significantly since then, with Microsoft announcing changes in August affecting all three of the key pillars of Longhorn. Two of the components--a presentation engine called Avalon and a Web services architecture called Indigo--are being pulled out of the next Windows release so they can be offered for both Longhorn and the current generation of Windows operating systems.

The third major component, a reworking of the Windows file system known as WinFS, has been delayed past Longhorn's release and is expected to be in beta testing when Longhorn ships. It is unclear when WinFS will be integrated into Windows itself.

Microsoft has not talked a great deal about what features will be part of the beta release. Montgomery said many of the updates have to do with improving the "operational characteristics" of the operating system--basically making Windows easier to manage and more reliable. Among the changes will be a new model for drivers--the bits of code that allow Windows to work effectively with hardware add-ons such as graphic cards and peripherals.

Another improvement will come in the way businesses are able to install Windows on large numbers of machines. Today, mass deployment is done through a process known as "ghosting" an image of the operating system. An improved method will come with Longhorn, Montgomery said.

Montgomery said Microsoft is on track for two other key releases for this year. The 2005 editions of the Visual Studio programming tools and the SQL Server database are slated to get new test versions in the coming weeks, with final releases scheduled for late summer.

Earlier Monday, Microsoft said that by March, it will release an update to the preview version of Avalon. Servers and tools Chief Eric Rudder is slated to talk about Indigo on Tuesday.

GLENDALE, California (AP) -- Passengers on Metrolink Train 100 heard a terrible rumbling. Then the lights suddenly flickered out, the floor tipped at a dangerous angle, and Tracy West went flying.

I also added a snippet of code on the right hand side...a What's Happening Marquee where I can usually post what's happening. Hope you like the animation. It was kinda complex; I had to tweak the code [along with the logos at the right hand side bottom] and fix it up.

Also, I added a "Word of the Day", Theoretically Archive and a "E-Mail Post".

How to use the E-Mail Post: Click the E-Mail thing at the bottom of the post [next to the comments], then then enter the friend's e-mail, then add your personal message, then click Send Email. The Email will be sent.

The world is doomed. OK, there are some people that do care about the world, but I know lots of people that don't. It's time you change your view of the world.

So you sit in front of your nice little computer, and unlike me, with no fear in your mind. I have fear in my mind. Ever see The Day After Tomorrow? That's supposed to show what will happen in the world if people stop caring for it!

I see...people in school trying to act hot and whatnot. Well, don't they give a damn about the world?

"I don't care about computer viruses, I'll just get another computer!"
"So what?"
"I don't care."

It's time for change!

Actually care about the world and things!

Don't go like "oh well..."

All of you have something to explain! For some of you, it's that why you don't give a damn about the world!

Well, you have IM, and stuff, but what about those kids out there that don't even have a computer!?

You know this!

Some kids and people out there don't even have a house. Let's see, you have at least like 6000 sq. feet.

Consider yourself lucky!

Some kids out there would die for some kind of school lunch!

Some kids out there, like in China, would love to see a US Dollar Bill!

I've been in the Bank of China [in China, of course], and my dad and I were changing about $20 to Chinese Yuan, and these guys next to us were like [translated], "Wow, it's american money!"

People are so into sports, they've turned stupid.

I've thought that at the rate of people getting smarter, we've be doomed.

Before I thought we would grow really smart.

Some kids in say Africa are so hungry they've haven't eaten in days.

Society has turned bad, and most of society are kids.

Some poeple would love to be in Wellesley, but they can't because of the huge house prices.

YOU ARE IN THE BEST SCHOOL SYSTEM IN THE USA, IN THE WORLD!

When I came to Wellesley in December 2, 2003, I thought people here would be smarter than usual. Well, guess what, they weren't.

They were mostly just the same stuck-up, dumb, don't-care-about-the-freakin-world kind of people.

It's not fair for the people out there.

I have something against everyone.

I don't care about some makeup.
I don't care about some stupid bracelets I have to wear.
I don't care about what I wear, as long as I have something to wear.

Some kids don't have anything to wear, like those plantation slaves.

I don't care about what other people say, most of the time.

Well, some people don't have the privleges you have.

You can't do this for the rest of your life.

Lupus is a disease that affects the skin. It is caused by the breakdown of the immune system. This is caused by the system going into ‘overdrive’ and creating antibodies that attack healthy tissue. The antibodies can’t tell good things from bad things. It may also be caused by a reaction from anti-seizure and acne medicine. Lupus is also called systemic lupus erythematosus, or SLE.

There are many symptoms of Lupus. Symptoms of Lupus include fever; painful and swollen joints; a butterfly-shaped rash across the nose and cheekbones, that is sensitive to sunlight; sores in the mouth; lost of hair; sensitivity to sunlight; scaly patches that spread to the lips, hands, forearms; and heart and kidney problems.

There are treatments for Lupus. For mild cases of Lupus, it is left alone with no treatment. For severe cases of Lupus, the patient is given aspirin and/or cortisone, which reduce inflammation. Steroids and steroid cream may also be given. The new medicine that is used is called immunosuppressive drugs.

Since nobody knows what causes Lupus, there are no prevention methods to date.

The group of people that are most affected by Lupus are women between the age of 15 and 35. Another interesting fact is that Lupus is the Latin word for ‘wolf’, when a doctor found that the rash looked like a wolf’s bite.
